Comparison of MP3 versus RealMedia:
MP3 - Offers the highest quality currently available for
a compressed music format. It's file size is slightly larger than
that of RealMedia but it definitely sounds better. You have to wait
a little longer for the entire file to download before you can play
it back but if you have a fast internet connection it will be worth
the wait.
RealMedia - It's advantages are that it's file size is slightly
less than that of MP3 and it generally will start to play back immediately
as it takes advantage of "streaming" technology so you
don't have to wait for the entire file to download first. The disadvantage
is that the sound quality is not as good as MP3.
Observation: Normally it might be okay to give up a little
quality for speed but if you are comparison shopping for classical
musicians then sound quality could play an important part in your
decision making process.
